Washington DC Trip
We are currently planning our annual 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2017 school year. We will depart the evening of March 17 and return March 21. Maple Educator Receives Award from Hendricks County Solid Waste
Janet Craig, Kindergarten teacher at Maple Elementary was named "Environmental Educator of the Year" by the Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District. Amy Sieferman, Outreach Coordinator, said that Mrs. Craig received the award for her environmental excellence in Hendricks County.
"We are super lucky to have an environmental school leader like Mrs. Craig," said Ms. Sieferman. "She teaches her students that they can do hard things like taking care of the earth."
AHS Students Recognized as "Rising Stars in Indiana"
Four Avon High School students are being honored as part of the first Rising Stars of Indiana recognition program. Patryk Baranski, Drew Langford, Christine Rodriguez and Carson Zeller are among 971 high school Juniors from 256 schools being honored.
The Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) created the 2017 Rising Stars of Indiana. Each Indiana high school was invited to recognize up to four students currently in the 11th grade, based on their academic achievement. According to IASP, the Class of 2018 is surely promised success with the list of scholars that are being recognized.
The students will receive a Certificate of Achievement and be recognized at a luncheon in March.

Virtual Option Learning Day
Avon teachers and students have been preparing to use the Virtual Option learning days which gives schools the flexibility to schedule these days to meet the requirements of traditional make-up days. This school year, the Virtual Option may be used to make up a snow-day which may occur after January 16th. Please visit our Virtual Option Information page to learn more.
Keith Ziolkowski Named Middle School Orchestra Teacher of the Year
The Indiana American String Teachers Association has named Keith Ziolkowski as Middle School Orchestra Teacher of the Year. Mr. Ziolkowski is the Orchestra Director at Avon Middle Schools North and South. He will be recognized at an upcoming awards ceremony.
Mr. Ziolkowski directed the Avon Middle Schools Chamber Orchestra last year at the Annual Midwest Clinic. The Orchestra Program at Avon Schools is in its 10th year serving more than 700 students in grades 6 through 12.

Here Comes the Bus is FREE to Avon Families
Winter weather is right around the corner! This can make for slower than normal traffic and occasionally cause buses to run a little behind schedule. Be sure to download the free Here Comes the Bus app from the App Store or Google Play. Just sign up and you will know exactly where your child's bus can be found. You can even receive alerts when it is near your home.
Here Comes the Bus is offered as a FREE service to ACSC families. A school code is needed to sign up for the program. The code, further instructions and additional links can be found on the ACSC Transportation web page at http://www.avon-schools.org/Page/157.
