The Avon Education Foundation's Supply Our Schools program officially kicked off on January 8. More than 20 teachers came to the Avon Schools Administration Center to stock up on folders, pencils, glue sticks, and a variety of other supplies for their classrooms. AEF board member Linda Dobbs heads up the program and was encouraged by the positive comments from Avon's teachers. "As a retired teacher myself, I know how much educators spend out of pocket on basic items for their classrooms," Dobbs explained. "I felt as though I was granting wishes for every teacher who came into the store and so many of the shoppers told me that these were exactly the supplies they needed!"
The SOS store will be open several times each month and hours will vary so that every teacher, no matter school start and end time, will be able to take advantage of the program. Supplies will continually be replenished so that they will be available whenever teachers need them. The Avon Education Foundation is asking the community to continue to donate school supplies, particularly dry erase markers, glue sticks, flash drives, and highlighters. Donations can be sent to any Avon school or dropped off at the Avon Schools Administration Center during regular business hours.
